Assignment 3
- Due date
- November 17, 15:00
Content
First, prepare an interview schedule including both the questions you’d like to ask as well as additional “probes.” Next, conduct one semi-structured interview of at least 20 minutes with somebody connected to your field. Record this with an audio recorder. Transcribe the interview and write a brief reflection on what kind of data you obtained that could not have been gathered through observation or informal talks. Discuss the difficulties you experienced and the limitations of your approach to the interview. For instance, if you were limited to online interviewing, how might this have affected your results?
Criteria
The assignment will be graded according to the following criteria:
- Quality of preparation: Has a topic list, with both questions and probes, been formulated?
- Quality of interview: Has an interview of appropriate length been carried out? Has a complete transcript been submitted?
- Quality of reflection: Is there an appropriate reflection on how the interview contributes to the research, the limitations of interviewing, and the researcher’s experience?
- Structure and style: Is the reflection well written and structured, free of spelling or grammatical mistakes, and correctly referenced when needed? (The transcrpt is exempt from these criteria.)
The assignment should be approximately 400 words in length, excluding the transcript. Please submit your reflection and your transcript as a single document through Brightspace.
